What Happens When You Stop or Disconnect Your AI Trading
Every control you have over a real-money AI portfolio on Botsfolio, and what each one does to your orders and coins.
You stay in control the whole time, and your money never leaves your own exchange account. Stopping a portfolio cancels its open orders within about a minute and sells nothing, so the coins stay yours with no exit fee. Disconnecting an exchange cancels Botsfolio's open orders first, then removes the connection. If your credit runs out, new buys wait, but sells and stop orders keep running. You can withdraw from your exchange at any time without asking Botsfolio.
Every control at a glance
| When you | What happens |
|---|---|
| Stop the portfolio | The AI stops trading and cancels its open orders, stop orders included, within about a minute. Nothing is sold, so there is no exit fee. The coins stay in your account, yours to keep or sell, with no stop order under them. |
| Disconnect the exchange | Botsfolio first cancels its open orders on the exchange, then removes your keys or sign-in and stops the portfolios on that exchange. Anything the exchange won't cancel is listed so you can cancel it there. |
| Credit runs out | New buys wait until you add credit. Sells and stop orders always run, so a falling coin is never left without its stop. |
| Withdraw your money | Any time, on your exchange. Botsfolio never holds the money you trade and has no permission to withdraw it. |
Stop a portfolio
Stopping is for when you want the AI to stop trading a portfolio, for any reason.
- The AI places no new orders.
- Within about a minute, it cancels the portfolio's open orders on the exchange, including its stop orders.
- Nothing is sold. Every coin the portfolio holds stays in your exchange account, and there is no exit fee because there is no trade.
That last point matters: after a stop, the coins have no stop order under them. If you want out of the positions, sell them on your exchange. If you want to keep them, they are yours to keep.
Disconnect an exchange
Disconnecting is for when you want Botsfolio to have no access to that exchange account at all.
- Botsfolio cancels its open orders on the exchange first, while it still has access.
- Then it removes your API key or revokes the Coinbase sign-in.
- Then it stops every portfolio that was trading on that exchange.
If the exchange refuses to cancel an order, Settings lists it so you can cancel it on the exchange yourself. You can also cut access from the exchange's side at any time by deleting the API key or removing Botsfolio from your connected apps. More in how to connect an exchange safely.
When your credit runs out
Real-money trading is paid from prepaid credit, a small fee on each filled trade. If the credit runs out:
- New buys wait until you add credit.
- Sells and stop orders keep running, so a falling coin is never left without its stop because of a billing issue.
You can turn on automatic top-up so this doesn't happen, and adding credit restarts any buys that were waiting. See the pricing page for how credit works.
Withdraw your money
Your money and coins sit in your own exchange account, not with Botsfolio. Withdraw them on the exchange whenever you like; the connection Botsfolio uses has no permission to withdraw. If a portfolio is still running, stop it first so the AI doesn't try to trade money that's no longer there.
Paper portfolios can be stopped at any time too. Nothing real is held, so stopping simply ends the paper record.
