Can AI Trade Crypto in Your Country? Exchanges, Fees and Rules by Country
An AI can trade crypto for you wherever one of the exchanges it connects to serves you. Botsfolio AI trades on your own Coinbase, Kraken, Binance or Binance.US account, so the exchange decides. In the US you can use Coinbase, Kraken (not Maine or New York) or Binance.US (not in 16 states and territories). In Canada and the UK: Coinbase and Kraken. In the EU: Coinbase and Kraken, trading in USDC or euros because USDT is restricted there. In India: Coinbase and Binance, both registered with India's Financial Intelligence Unit. None of the four serves Japan, the Philippines, Russia or mainland China. Letting software trade your own account through the exchange's own connection is a normal way to trade; the rules that matter are about the exchange, which must be allowed to serve you. Checked against each exchange's own pages on October 19, 2026.
"Can I use this in my country?" is one of the first questions people ask before they let an AI trade real money. It is also one of the hardest to answer from the outside, because exchanges change where they operate often, and their lists are spread across help pages.
So we checked. Here is which exchange an AI can trade on for you, country by country, what each one charges, which currency the AI trades in, and what the rules say about letting software trade your account.
The short answer
Botsfolio is software. It never holds your money. The AI trades inside your own exchange account, through a connection that can trade but can't withdraw. That means the question "can AI trade crypto in my country?" comes down to a simpler one: does one of these four exchanges serve you?
- Coinbase serves most countries, though in many of them only for crypto, without local-currency deposits.
- Kraken serves most countries outside a short prohibited list.
- Binance serves much of the world, but not the US, Canada, the Netherlands, new UK users, Singapore, Japan, Malaysia or the Philippines, and its EU status is changing.
- Binance.US serves only the US, and not every state.

The four exchanges at a glance
| Exchange | How you connect | Trading fee (maker / taker) | Smallest order | Where |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coinbase | Sign in with Coinbase. No keys to copy. | US: 0.50% / 0.90% at entry, lower with volume. EU, UK, Canada: 0.25% / 0.50%. Most other countries: 0.09% / 0.10%. | $1 | Most countries, in many of them for crypto only. Not Japan or the Philippines. Trades in USD in the US, USDC elsewhere. |
| Kraken | API key that can trade, with withdrawals off. | 0.40% / 0.80% at entry, lower with 30-day volume or assets held. | $5 | Not in India, Japan, Russia, the Philippines and a few other countries; in the US, not Maine or New York. |
| Binance | API key that can trade, with withdrawals off. | 0.10% / 0.10% (25% less when paid in BNB). | $5 | Not in the US, Canada, the Netherlands, Singapore, Japan, Malaysia or the Philippines; no new UK users; changing in the EU. |
| Binance.US | API key that can trade, with withdrawals off. | 0% / 0.02%. | $10 | US only, and not in 12 states, including New York and Texas. |
Fees matter more than most people expect. The same AI portfolio returned a median of 33.6% a year at a 0.10% fee per trade and 17.1% at 0.90%. We tested it in exchange fees can turn a winning AI into a losing one, and the full cost math, from $500 to $50,000, is in how much it costs to let AI trade crypto.
Which currency the AI trades in where you live
The AI holds your cash in the currency with the most trading pairs for your exchange and country:
| Exchange | United States | EU and EEA | Everywhere else |
|---|---|---|---|
Coinbase | US dollars | USDC | USDC |
Kraken | US dollars | USDC or euros | US dollars or USDC |
Binance | Not available | USDC or euros | USDT or USDC |
Binance.US | US dollars | Not available | Not available |
The United States
US residents have three options. Binance.US has the lowest fees of the four, 0% for orders that wait in the book and 0.02% for orders that fill at once, but it isn't available in Alaska, Connecticut, Georgia, Maine, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Texas, Vermont or Washington, or in four US territories, and it offers no dollar pairs in Kansas or Wisconsin. Kraken serves every state except Maine and New York. Coinbase serves the whole country but has the highest entry-tier fees for US customers: 0.50% to 0.90% per trade until your 30-day volume grows.
Europe, the UK and Canada
In the EU and EEA, MiCA rules decide which stablecoins exchanges can offer, and USDT isn't one of them. Coinbase and Kraken both restrict it for EEA customers, so the AI trades in USDC or euros there. Binance didn't get a MiCA license by the July 2026 deadline, and its service for EU residents has been limited or changing since, so we treat it as unconfirmed in the EU.
In the UK, Coinbase and Kraken both serve retail customers, and Binance has taken no new UK users since October 2023. In Canada, Coinbase and Kraken serve residents, and Binance doesn't.
Coinbase's entry-tier fee in Europe, the UK and Canada is 0.25% to 0.50% per trade, against 0.40% to 0.80% at Kraken.
India
Crypto exchanges serving India must register with its Financial Intelligence Unit. In the government's March 2026 list, both Coinbase India and Binance (as Nest Services) are registered, and Kraken isn't. Coinbase offers Advanced Trade in India, the version the AI connects to, with rupee deposits since June 2026.
Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East
Outside the US, Europe, the UK and Canada, most people can choose between Coinbase, Kraken and Binance. Coinbase's entry-tier fee in most of these countries is 0.09% to 0.10% per trade, and Binance's is 0.10%, or 0.075% when paid in BNB. In many of these countries Coinbase is crypto only: you can't deposit local currency, so you fund the account by sending crypto such as USDC from elsewhere.
A few places stand out:
- Japan. None of the four. Coinbase left in 2023, Kraken lists Japan as prohibited, and Binance moved Japanese users to a separate local exchange.
- The Philippines. None of the four. Local regulators ordered internet providers to block Coinbase, Kraken and Binance.
- Malaysia. Binance is blocked by the Finance Ministry; Coinbase and Kraken are open.
- Singapore. Coinbase is licensed there. Binance left, and Kraken says it isn't licensed in Singapore.

Is AI crypto trading legal?
In most countries where crypto trading is allowed, letting software trade your own exchange account is allowed too. Exchanges publish APIs, the connections bots use, precisely so customers can trade with software, and their terms cover it.
Regulators focus on two other things:
- The exchange that holds your money. It needs a license or registration where you live. That is why the table above follows each exchange's own country list and local regulators' notices.
- Anyone who takes your money or gives you personal investment advice. A service that holds customer funds and trades them, or tells you what to buy, usually needs its own license.
Botsfolio does neither. Your money stays in your own exchange account, the connection can trade but never withdraw, and you choose the cryptos and the amount. Botsfolio AI also trades spot coins only, with no leverage or derivatives. That matters in places like the UK, where the FCA bans the sale of crypto derivatives to retail customers.
This is general information, not legal advice. Rules change, and taxes on trading gains apply in most countries. For how to spot an AI trading product that is breaking the rules, see are AI trading bots legit.
What if your exchange isn't listed?
When you connect for real money, the last row of the exchange list is "Other exchanges". Tap the one you use, such as Bybit, OKX, Bitget, KuCoin, CoinDCX, BingX or Bitunix, or type its name, and we'll email you when it's ready. Those requests help decide which exchange we add next.
How to start from anywhere

- Paper trade for free. Build your own AI portfolio on the coins you pick. Paper trading needs no exchange account.
- Connect your exchange. Our guide to connecting an exchange safely shows the exact permission boxes for each one, and stop and disconnect shows what each control does.
- Know the cost. See pricing: no subscription, a small fee only when a trade fills.

Method and limits
We read each exchange's own country and state lists (Kraken's geographic restrictions page, Binance's list of prohibited countries, Binance.US's supported states, Coinbase's signup and USDC region pages), plus regulator notices and news reports where an exchange is blocked locally, on October 19, 2026. Where an exchange doesn't restrict a country but doesn't confirm a local license either, the table marks it with an asterisk. Fees are each exchange's published entry-tier rates, checked in October 2026; once you connect, Botsfolio reads your own account's fee. Exchanges change their lists and fees often, so check before you sign up. This is not legal advice.
